Meeting Minutes

October 22, 2005

Lasker declared a quorum at 2:08 CDT.

The following members were present in the ReadAssist Chatroom:

• Judith Lasker, Chair
• Jody Dorsett, Treasurer
• Janet Dailey, Communications
• Walt Boyes, Technical Gizmos
• Pam Poggiani
• Christine Dorsett

Christine Dorsett had been proposed as a member; Lasker stated that 7 Aye votes had been received via email. Another Aye vote was cast at this meeting, and Christine Dorsett is now a member of this Board.

Free Webscription application

• The form has been written. How to make it operate -- J. Dorsett and Poggiani participated in a mutually incomprehensible discussion. J. Dorsett is to write a "to do" list and send it to McComb, Cochran, and Poggiani, and the four are to come up with a consensus.

Incorporation and Registration

• No report has been received from the Study Committee appointed at the last meeting. Much discussion ensued over incorporation and registration as a charitable organization. Incorporation would separate ReadAssist funds and income from that of the Treasurer, in the view of governmental and financial organizations. Whether ReadAssist's income might increase as a result of increased attention because of hyperlinks from Baen about the Free Webscriptions application was mentioned. Also brought up was the possibility that ReadAssist might want to do more than it is doing. All of this needs to be discussed.
• J. Dorsett is to write out a letter about the reasons for incorporation and registration for Boyes to edit and send to all members of the Board, for discussion and voting by the full Board.

Meeting adjourned at 3:15.

The website is doing fine. The email addresses given on the Contact page are working well. Updates to the links pages will be sent to the webmaster next week.

Free Webscriptions Program

Webmaster McComb has been asked to establish the email qualifyfree@readassist.org for use in this program, ready for Cochran.

The form is not yet up on the site, as it is not quite finished -- it can't be until the program -- er, script -- has been written; the two have to be mated. As I recall, Dorsett has a script-writer to propose? The script-writer and McComb will need to communicate, about the site details that have to be included in the script.
