Who We Are Jimmy's Corner Record of Meetings

January 25, 2003

On January 25, the chatroom's hostsite was being updated. The meeting was rescheduled for February 1; but only four members came and the meeting was rescheduled again for:

February 8

The following members were present in the Baen's Bar Chat Room on February 8:

Chair declared a quorum and called the meeting to order at 1:15 CDT.

Transfer of the funds from old treasurer to new has been accomplished. Dorsett will handle payments for expenses already approved but not yet reimbursed. (Luis Cedeno needs to submit receipts for the website fees to Dorsett.)

Poggiani has drafted a broadsheet that can be posted on walls at conventions. Dorsett will see about finding an artist to clean up the artwork; Poggiani will send Dorsett a second draft no later than Monday.

Poggiani suggests that a bookmark be made up for passing out. Idea acclaimed.

Boyes will conduct a preliminary inquiry, asking Clarion if there might be any interest on the part of the school in a funding assistance scheme.

Poggiani has discovered a very similar URL, for a website involved in teaching dyslexics to read. It was decided that similar URLs happen, and that nothing should be done other than redirecting those who have addressed email intended for them to us.

Next Meeting

The next meeting is scheduled for March 15.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:15 CDT. In the absence of Janet Daily, these minutes are submitted by Pam Poggiani.

Committee Reports

Treasurer's Report

  Deposits Expenses Balance
Balance from Previous Account $2,330.72
LosCon proceeds 532.21
Total Deposit     $2,862.93
Rent for PO Box   24.00
Reimburse Dorsett, Webscriptions to WorldCon workers (ISP)   180.00
Current Balance     $2,658.93

The account is at Community Bank and Trust of Seneca Mo. It is set up as Joseph Dorsett and Judith Lasker DBA Readassist. I am the primary signer and it uses my Social security number. As long as we keep a balance of $1000.00 all services are free. It also earns .45% per year (hoo hoo!!). I am sending a signature card to Judith. She will be able to write checks as well. I will send her several checks. It will also be set up for Read Only access on the internet.

There is also a free $2,000.00 life policy. I have designated Judith as the beneficiary should I pass away. I think this is prudent should I pass and the account get locked as part of my estate, there will be money instantly available. I have amended my will to show that this account is not my money and should not be used in settling my estate. But we know the courts.

Website Update

A few changes will be made next week.

Links and Reciprocal Links

Reciprocal links have been requested of the sites added; two have responded so far. ReadAssist now has links from 29 other sites.

Requests for links from organizations for and of the disabled will be sent soon.

Search Engines

ReadAssist has been submitted to; no response has yet been received, and I've sent a trace to them. ReadAssist does occasionally show up in answer to searches. For example, when I was trying to find out about chat and newsgroups, Google offered ReadAssist's links to chatrooms page as number four on the list -- the very page I was trying toget information for.

Somebody has hacked our message page; no messages can be left. Where these messages are actually going is unknown. The message page will be fixed at some point; meanwhile, it will be made unavailable.
