: Hi, Travis and Tony,Pam Poggiani asked me to respond to your request that ReadAssist.Org set up a PayPal account. The board of ReadAssist early on looked at the issue of establishing a PayPal account. At that time the board didn’t think a PayPal account was necessary since the organization was new and it was not at all clear what the response to it would be. The board did not consider it appropriate to pay extra fees of any kind out of the extremely limited funds available. In addition, volunteer time available was limited and other priorities took precedence. The funds available to PayPal are still extremely limited, as is volunteer time. Take a look at the minutes posted elsewhere on this board, Travis, and you’ll see the “operational” issues the board is grappling with. Unless a clear case can be made that establishing a PayPal account is advantageous to the organization’s fund-raising, the board won’t agree to do so.As to Baen Books establishing the account for PayPal, there is no legal, official or actual link between the two organizations. Eric Flint, a Baen author, is one of the founders of the ReadAssist organization and has committed much of his own time and money to supporting the effort. Jim Baen supported the effort by allowing use of Baen WebBoard facilities for communication. You will still find the minutes posted on Baen’s Bar. But Jim would not commit Baen’s resources to support ReadAssist, nor has the board asked him to.If you are interested in helping ReadAssist, or donating, please contact any member of the board or send your check to Mike Preston.Judith Lasker: Might I suggest that ReadAssist set up an account to accept donations through PayPal?
